Einladung 3. Roundtable Awareness & Diversity Berlin

Liebe Alle, 

die letzten Monate waren und sind bis heute für uns alle intensiv, viel und herausfordernd. Auch wir vom  Arbeitskreis Awareness & Diversity der Clubcommission Berlin waren an vielen Stellen gefragt, sodass unsere Aktivitäten rund um das Projekt Awareness-Akademie ebenfalls zwangsläufig einen anderen Lauf nahmen als geplant und der nächste Awareness & Diversity Roundtable ein bisschen warten musste. 
Nun geht es weiter! Wir laden euch ganz herzlich zum 3. Roundtable Awareness & Diversity am nächsten Mittwochabend ein. Auch dieses Mal stellen wir den Roundtable unter ein aktuelles und für alle Clubkulturschaffenden relevantes Thema.

3. Roundtable Awareness & Diversity Berlin
Schwerpunkt: Rassismus in der Clubkultur

Die Pandemie ist nicht nur existenzbedrohend für viele Menschen innerhalb der Clubkultur, sie wirkt ebenfalls wie ein Brennglas für die Ungleichheiten und Missstände unserer Gesellschaft. Die Ereignisse der letzten Wochen und Monate haben noch einmal klar gemacht, dass Rassismus kein Einzelfall sondern ein strukturelles Problem ist. Das Problem ist wahrlich kein neues, doch die weltweite Aufmerksamkeit darauf, ist eine neue Möglichkeit für Veränderung, die es auch für uns zu nutzen gilt. Rassismus ist tief in unseren Alltag und unsere Sozialisierung eingeflochten. Vieles davon geschieht ohne konkretes Bewusstsein für rassistische Wirkmechanismen in den eigenen Strukturen. Es liegt in der Verantwortung jeder einzelnen Person diese zu erkennen, zu reflektieren und ihnen aktiv entgegen zu wirken. Rassistische Wirkungsweisen und Handlungen finden in der Clubkultur in verschiedensten Dimensionen, Bereichen und Richtungen statt – in Teams, in der Kommunikation, auf der Tanzfläche, an der Tür, in der Programmgestaltung uvm.. 
Für den kommenden Roundtable haben wir verschiedene Akteur*innen und Initiativen, die aktiv gegen Rassismus in der Clubkultur und für Gleichbehandlung in jener arbeiten, eingeladen, ihre Perspektiven, Erfahrungen und Einblicke in ihre Arbeit zu teilen. Gemeinsam mit allen Teilnehmenden wollen wir den Status Quo im Hinblick auf Rassismus in der Clubkultur diskutieren, analysieren und entgegenwirkende Maßnahmen und Handlungsmöglichkeiten erarbeiten. 


SPEAKER*INNEN: 

  • Celine Barry leitet die Antidiskriminierungsberatung von Each One Teach One. EACH ONE TEACH ONE (EOTO) e.V. ist ein Community-basiertes Bildungs- und Empowerment-Projekt in Berlin. Im Rahmen des Bundesprogramms Demokratie leben! ist EOTO in der Strukturentwicklung zum Bundeszentralen Träger für Rassismusprävention und Empowerment Schwarzer Menschen aktiv.
  • Kikelomo ist DJ, Radiomoderatorin und Boiler Room Host. Sie ist aktives Mitglied des Berliner Kollektivs No Shade, einer Clubnight-Serie und eines DJ-Schulungsprogramms für Femme-, Trans- und nicht-binäre DJs, das sich aktiv für Vielfalt und Inklusion in der Musikindustrie einsetzt.
  • Maureen Mutheu ist unter anderem Veranstalterin und Kuratorin der Berliner Clubreihen: Higher Grounds und Songversations. Ihr Anliegen ist es, Zugang und Sichtbarkeit für talentierte, diverse Kreative & Künstler*innen zu schaffen und das Gemeinschaftsgefühl von BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) zu stärken.
  • Rafia Shahnaz und Can Tunç sind aktiv bei GLADT e.V., eine Selbstorganisation von Schwarzen, Indigenen und of Color Lesben, Schwulen, Bisexuellen, Trans*, Inter* und Queeren Menschen in Berlin und engagiert sich auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen, so auch in der Berliner Clubkultur,  gegen Rassismus, Sexismus, Trans- und Homofeindlichkeit, Behindertenfeindlichkeit sowie andere Formen von Diskriminierung. Aktuell führen sie eine Online-Umfrage zu Diskriminierung in Queer-Spaces in Berlin durch.

18:50 - 20:00 Rassismus in der Clubkultur - Diskussionsrunde mit   Speaker*innen und Teilnehmenden 
20:00 - 20:35 Arbeitsgruppen: Erarbeitung von Handlungsmöglichkeiten gegen rassistische Diskriminierung in der Clubkultur
20:35 - 21:00 Präsentation und Diskussion der Ergebnisse und Abschluss 

Eingeladen sind alle Akteur*innen der Berliner Clubkultur – Clubbetreibende und Mitarbeitende, Kollektive, Festivals, Initiativen, Veranstaltende, Booker*innen, Forscher*innen und mehr. Willkommen sind sowohl jene, die sich bereits aktiv mit den Themen Awareness & Diversity in der Clubkultur  beschäftigen genauso wie jene, die hier ganz am Anfang stehen. Es geht darum uns für Rassismus in der Szene mit all seinen Facetten zu sensibilisieren und gemeinsam dagegen aktiv und handlungsfähig zu werden. 


Die Diskussionsrunde wird vornehmlich auf Englisch stattfinden. Beiträge, Fragen und alles Weitere können auf Deutsch geschehen und wir bemühen uns um die stetige Übersetzung für alle Beteiligten. Die Arbeitssprache und das Handling außerhalb der Diskussionsrunde entscheiden wir gemeinsam in der Gruppe. Wichtig ist uns, dass sich alle wohl, verstanden und abgeholt fühlen.

Im Rahmen des letzten Awareness & Diversity Roundtable, der am 23.03.20202 online stattfand, haben wir uns aus erster Hand Praxisbeispiele von Awarenessarbeit in Berliner Clubs angeschaut. Dazu haben haben uns das Türteam des ://about blank und das Awarenessteam des Mensch Meier Einblicke in ihre langjährige Awareness- und Türarbeit sowie damit einhergehende Konzepte gewährt und sind auf die unterschiedlichsten Fragen der Teilnehmenden eingegangen. An dieser Stelle möchten wir uns noch einmal ganz herzlich für den offenen und spannenden Einblick beim ://about blank und Mensch Meier bedanken.

The last few months up to today have been a lot to process and very challenging. Due to the working group Awareness & Diversity of Clubcommission being needed in acapacities, the activities of the project Awareness Academy were forced to take an alternating path and the roundtable could not take place. Now we continue and would like to invite you all to the 3rd roundtable, happening next Wednesday evening.As always, the topic to be discussed should be important and relevant to most all creators of club culture.

The pandemic not only endangers people’s existences, it also acts like a magnifying glass in exacerbating the inequalities of our society. The goings on of the last weeks and months have made it clear again, that racism is not happening in isolated cases but instead a structural problem. This problem is not a new one, but the worldwide attention towards the topic gives the possibility for change which needs to be taken advantage of.

Racism is deeply ingrained in our daily lives and socialisation. Much of it happens without awareness of the racist mechanisms in one’s own structures. It’s every single person’s responsibility to identify them, reflect on them and actively work against them.Acts of racism and it’s mechanisms happen in many different aspects of club culture – from teams to, communication, on the dancefloor, at the door, in designing the program, etc..For the coming roundtable we have invited actors and initiatives, who work against racism and inequality in club culture, to share their perspectives, experiences and work. We want to discuss and analyse the status quo of club culture as well as develop strategies to work against it with all who participate.

SPEAKERS:

  • Celine Barry leads the anti discrimination consultation program of Each One Teach One. EACH ONE TEACH ONE (EOTO) e.V. is a community based education and empowerment project in Berlin. In the context of the federalprogram “Demokratie leben!”, EOTO is active in the federal structural development for prevention of racism and empowerment of black people.
  • Kikelomo is a DJ, radio moderator and boiler room host. She is part of the Berlin collective No Shade, a club night series and a DJ training program for femme, trans and non-binary DJs, which promotes diversity and inclusion within the music industry.
  • Maureen Mutheu is an event organizer and curator for the club series Higher Grounds as well as Songversations. She is concerned with giving diverse and talented artists better access and to strengthen the BIPoc (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) community.
  • Rafia Shahnaz and Can Tunç is active at GLADT e.V., a self organized community of black, indigenous and of color lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans*, inter* and queer people in Berlin. GLADT is active in different aspects of society as well as club culture and fights against racism, sexism, trans- and homophobia, discrimination of disabled people and other forms of discrimination. They are currently conducting an online- survey about discrimination in queer spaces in Berlin.

We’d like to invite all actors of Berlin club culture – club owners and employees, collectives, festivals, initiatives, organizers, bookers, researchers and more. Everyone, who is actively engaged in the topic of awareness & diversity or those who are just starting out are also welcome. We want to sensitize ourselves to racism in the scene in all its facets to be able to work actively against it.


The discussion will mostly be held in English. Contributions, questions and everything else can happen in German; we’ll try to translate to the best of our abilities for all participants. The language for working together and handling outside of the discussion will be decided together. It’s important for us to make everyone feel understood and comfortable.

During the last Awareness & Diversity Roundtable, which took place online on 23.03.2020, we were able to get first hand examples of practical awareness work in a Berlin club. The door team of ://about blank and the awareness team of Mensch Meier provided insights in their long-standing awareness and door work, as well as the concepts behind it. They also answered many questions from participants. We’d like to thank ://about blank and Mensch Meier for the open and exciting insights very much.
